Common Questions about Manufactured Home Energy Saving |
Are there energy saving guidelines that manufactured home buildiers are required to follow?
A manufactured home is a home built in a factory meeting the federal Manufactured Home Construction and Safety Standards, commonly referred to as the HUD Code. An Energy Star qualified manufactured home is a home that has been designed, produced, and installed in accordance with Energy Star guidelines by an Energy Star certified plant.
What are the Tax Credits for owning an Energy Efficient Manufactured Home?
Beginning in 2006, producers of manufactured homes will be eligible for federal tax credits for homes that are energy efficient. This includes manufactured homes that qualify for the Energy Star label. These tax credits are part of the Energy Policy Act of 2005.
How do I know if my mobile home is using too much energy?
There are two ways to figure out if your mobile home is energy efficient, and they are both quick. First, you can simply compare your energy bill to a neighbor with a similar size and aged manufactured home. Another way to evaluate your energy use is the Home Energy Yardstick. If you have 5 minutes and your energy bills are handy, find out if your home’s energy performance measures up.
Does an energy-efficient ENERGY STAR manufactured home cost more?
An Energy Star qualified new home may have a higher initial cost compared to a comparable home without the energy-efficient features. However, you’ll pay less in utility bills each month, usually more than enough to offset any increase in your mortgage payment.
